RMA Remote Alarm Module - Help & Support

On the RMAR model, if the alarm is silenced but the alarm condition persists, the audible alarm will automatically re-sound after approximately 3 minutes.
When connected to a Hy-Lite HLA system, silencing the alarm at either the Hy-Lite or the RMA will silence both units.
Troubleshooting
The RMA is not showing any LED activity
If the RMA has no LED indicators lit:
- Check the RPC cable connection - Ensure the RPC cable is firmly seated in both the monitor or Hy-Lite output and the RMA input port.
- Verify the monitor or Hy-Lite is powered - The Hy-Lite RMA receives its signal and operating power through the RPC connection to the Hy-Lite. If the Hy-Lite is not powered, the RMA will not operate.
- Check the 414-RMA power supply - The 414-RMA requires its own 12VDC power supply plugged into a wall outlet near the RMA mounting location.
- Inspect the RPC cable for damage - Look for cuts, kinks, or damaged connectors.
- Contact support - If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact orders@hydrocheck.com.
The RMA shows red but the monitor shows normal readings
If the RMA is in alarm but the connected monitor or Hy-Lite appears normal:
- Check for intermittent conditions - The monitor may have briefly dropped below setpoint before recovering.
- Verify the RPC cable connection - A loose or partially seated cable can cause erratic signal transmission.
- Check for electrical interference - Long RPC cable runs near motors or high-voltage equipment may pick up noise.
- Contact support - If the issue persists, contact orders@hydrocheck.com.
The audible alarm will not silence when I press the button
If pressing the front-panel silence button does not stop the audible alarm:
- Press firmly - The button requires a deliberate press.
- RMAR ReAlarm feature - If you have the RMAR model, the alarm will re-sound after approximately 3 minutes if the alarm condition is still present.
- Contact support - If the button does not respond at all, the unit may require service.
I received an RPC cable with the wrong connectors
The 414-RMA and Hy-Lite RMA use different RPC cable connectors and are not interchangeable.
- Hy-Lite RPC cables use 4P4C modular connectors on both ends.
- 414-RMA RPC assemblies include a wiring harness and transformer for connecting to the 414 monitor terminal block.
- Contact support - If you received the wrong cable, contact orders@hydrocheck.com.

How It Works
- The RMA is a wall-mountable alarm box that provides a remote visual and audible alert when your water quality monitor or Hy-Lite indicator goes into alarm.
- It features a green LED for normal operation, a red LED for alarm condition, and a piezo audible alarm with a front-panel silence button.
- The RMA connects to the monitor or Hy-Lite via an RPC cable and can be mounted up to 700 feet away.
- For the Hy-Lite RMA, the module receives its signal and operating power through the RPC connection to the Hy-Lite system.
- For the 414-RMA, a 9" wiring harness connects to the 414 monitor relay on terminal block TB1 terminals 4-6. The 414-RMA includes its own 12VDC power supply.
- The RMAR variant adds a ReAlarm feature so the audible alarm re-sounds after approximately 3 minutes if the alarm condition still exists.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the RMA Remote Alarm Module?
The RMA is a wall-mountable alarm box that provides a remote visual and audible alert when your water quality monitor goes into alarm. It is designed for locations where operators need to be alerted away from the monitor itself.
There are different RMA models - which one do I need?
414-RMA is designed for the 414 series monitors and includes its own 12VDC power supply and wiring harness.
RMA for Hy-Lite systems connects to the Hy-Lite output port using an RPC cable and does not require a separate power supply.
What is the difference between the RMA and the RMAR?
The RMAR adds a ReAlarm feature. If the alarm is silenced but the alarm condition persists, the audible alarm automatically re-sounds after approximately 3 minutes.
What accessories do I need for a complete RMA setup?
For a 414-RMA setup:
- 414 monitor already installed
- 414-RMA Remote Alarm Module
- RPC cable for 414 systems
For an RMA with Hy-Lite:
- Hy-Lite indicator already installed
- RMA Remote Alarm Module for Hy-Lite
- RPC cable with 4P4C connectors
How does the 414-RMA connect to the 414 monitor?
The 414-RMA connects to the 414 monitor relay on TB1 terminals 4-6 using the included 9" harness. An RPC cable then runs from the harness to the RMA module at the remote location.
How does the Hy-Lite RMA connect to the Hy-Lite?
The Hy-Lite RMA connects to the Hy-Lite output port using an RPC cable with 4P4C modular connectors. It receives both its signal and operating power through that connection.
What is an RPC cable and what lengths are available?
The RPC is the Remote Process Cable that connects the monitor or Hy-Lite to the RMA at a remote location. Standard lengths include 10', 25', 50', 100', and 200', with custom lengths available up to 700 feet.
Can I silence the audible alarm on the RMA?
Yes. The RMA has a push button on the front panel that silences the audible alarm. On RMAR units, the audible alarm re-sounds after approximately 3 minutes if the condition is still active.
What are the LED indicators on the RMA?
- Steady Green LED - Water quality is within acceptable range.
- Flashing Red LED - Water quality has dropped below the alarm setpoint.
Can I use the 414 monitor relay for something other than the RMA?
Yes. The 414 monitor relay can also be connected to BMS inputs, alarm panels, indicator lamps, solenoid valves, and other control equipment. If you use it for the RMA, you cannot use the same relay terminals for another device without additional hardware.
What are the relay specifications on the 414 monitor?
The 414 monitor includes a built-in SPDT relay on TB1 terminals 4-6 rated at 1A @ 28VDC or 0.5A @ 120VAC with an adjustable delay from 0 to 120 seconds.
Can I mount the RMA outside or in a wet environment?
No. The RMA is designed for indoor use in a dry environment.
What is the warranty on the RMA?
The RMA comes with a 2-year warranty. Contact orders@hydrocheck.com for warranty service.
