What Do My Lights Mean?

Steady Green = Above Setpoint (Normal) Water resistivity is above the factory-set threshold. The system is operating normally.
Flashing Red = Below Setpoint (Alert) Water resistivity has dropped below the fixed setpoint. On HLA models, the audible alarm will sound. On HLS (silent) models, only the red LED flashes.
Flashing Red (Silenced) = Still Below Setpoint The audible alarm has been silenced by pressing the red check symbol on the front label, but water is still below the setpoint. The red LED will continue flashing until water quality returns above the threshold.

The Hy-Lite uses a fixed factory setpoint and is not user-adjustable. Higher resistivity indicates higher water purity.

Troubleshooting

My Hy-Lite is flashing red - what should I check?

A flashing red light means water resistivity has dropped below the fixed setpoint. Follow these steps:

  • Check your water source - Exhausted DI resin, recent system startup, or a recently replaced or serviced tank can all cause temporarily low resistivity.
  • Bleed the line - Air trapped in the water line can trigger a false alert. Run water through the system to flush any trapped air.
  • Verify sensor installation - Ensure the Hy-Lite resistivity cell is fully submerged in constant-flowing water. Install horizontally when possible to minimize air pockets.
  • Inspect the sensor - Check for physical damage, contamination, or fouling on the sensor electrodes.
  • Contact support - If the red light persists after confirming good water quality and a properly installed sensor, contact orders@hydrocheck.com.
Can air bubbles cause a false red alert?

Yes. Air trapped in the line can temporarily cause a flashing red condition. To resolve:

  • Install the sensor horizontally when possible to reduce air pockets.
  • Bleed the line after startup - Run water through the system until flow is consistent.
  • Allow the system to flush fully before relying on the indicator status.
No lights are on at all - what's wrong?

If neither the green nor red LED is illuminated:

  • Check power - Verify the unit is receiving power and the power cable is securely connected.
  • Contact support - If power is confirmed and the unit still does not illuminate, the Hy-Lite may require service. Contact orders@hydrocheck.com.

Installation

Mount the Hy-Lite The Hy-Lite may be panel-mounted or wall-mounted. Install in a visible, accessible location near the process line.
Install the Resistivity Cell Thread the Hy-Lite resistivity cell into the process line using the included 3/4" or 1/2" NPT fitting. Install horizontally when possible to minimize air pockets. Ensure the cell is fully submerged in constant-flowing water. The sensor is integrated, so no separate wiring is required.
Connect Power Connect the power cable and verify the unit powers on. The green LED should illuminate once water quality is above the setpoint.
Bleed the Line Run water through the system to remove air from the line. Allow the system to stabilize before relying on the indicator status.
⚠ Important: Do not attempt to remove the securing nut from the sensor assembly. The resistivity cell is permanently attached and is not designed to be disassembled in the field.

How It Works

  • The Hy-Lite resistivity cell is installed inline in your water process and measures the resistivity of the water.
  • The Hy-Lite compares the measured resistivity against its fixed factory setpoint and indicates status with LED lights.
  • When water resistivity is above the setpoint, the green LED illuminates for normal operation.
  • When water resistivity drops below the setpoint, the red LED flashes. On HLA models, an audible alarm also sounds. The alarm automatically resets when water quality returns above the setpoint.
  • The Hy-Lite includes an output port for connecting a Remote Alarm Module or Relay Module for external alerting or control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between HLA and HLS models?

HLA (Alarm) models include both LED indicators and an audible alarm that sounds when water drops below the setpoint. HLS (Silent) models include the same LED indicators but do not have an audible alarm.

Both models include the output port for connecting remote alarm or relay modules.

Are Hy-Lite setpoints adjustable?

The Hy-Lite is factory-set to a single fixed resistivity setpoint and is not user-adjustable. Standard available setpoints include:

  • 25, 50, 100, 200, 500 kilohm-cm
  • 1, 2, 3, 5, and higher megohm-cm options

These setpoints cover a wide range of water quality applications, from RO and general process water to high-purity DI systems.

How do I silence the audible alarm?

On HLA models, press the red check symbol on the front label. The audible alarm will silence, but the red LED will continue flashing until water quality returns above the setpoint.

HLS models do not include an audible alarm.

Which sensor does the Hy-Lite use?

The Hy-Lite uses an integrated resistivity cell with a stainless steel body connected via a permanent cable assembly. Standard cable lengths include 10', 25', 50', and 100'. It comes with 3/4" and 1/2" NPT fittings for inline installation.

Can I connect a remote alarm or relay module?

Yes. All Hy-Lite models include an output port for connecting:

  • Remote Alarm Modules - Provide visual and audible alerts at a remote location.
  • Relay Modules - Enable connection to external control systems, solenoid valves, or BMS inputs.

Modules connect via an RPC cable, which is available in various lengths.

How does the Hy-Lite compare to the 414R-HP?

The Hy-Lite is a fixed setpoint indicator. It shows whether water quality is above or below its factory-set threshold using LED lights and does not display a numerical reading.

The 414R-HP provides a continuous digital readout of resistivity with user-selectable setpoints and a built-in relay.

Both systems use inline sensors with standard 1/2" or 3/4" NPT fittings, allowing similar installation into process lines.

Does the Hy-Lite need calibration?

The Hy-Lite is factory calibrated and does not require field calibration. There is no calibration module for the Hy-Lite. If you suspect drift or a measurement issue, contact orders@hydrocheck.com for evaluation.

What input voltage does the Hy-Lite support?

The Hy-Lite supports both 110V and 220V operation when used with the appropriate transformer. A 220V Euro plug transformer is available for international installations.

For fixed installations, the unit can also be direct-wired to a regulated 9V or 12V power supply without impacting performance or specified resistance accuracy.
