Relay Behavior

Normal Mode (E2 jumper IN) Above setpoint -> relay is de-energized. Below setpoint -> relay is energized after the configured delay.
Fail-Safe Mode (E2 jumper OUT) Above setpoint -> relay is energized. Below setpoint or loss of power -> relay is de-energized.

Operating mode is set by the E2 jumper inside the RMR enclosure. Normal Mode = E2 jumper IN (default). Fail-Safe Mode = E2 jumper OUT.

Troubleshooting

The relay is not activating when the Hy-Lite shows red

If the Hy-Lite is in alert but the RMR relay is not changing state:

  • Check the RPC cable connection - Ensure the RPC cable is firmly seated in both the Hy-Lite output port and the RMR input port.
  • Check the time delay setting - The potentiometer inside the RMR may be set to a long delay. The water must remain below setpoint for the full delay.
  • Verify operating mode - Check the E2 jumper. In Fail-Safe Mode, relay behavior is reversed from what you may expect.
  • Verify the Hy-Lite is powered - The RMR receives its signal and operating power through the RPC connection to the Hy-Lite system.
  • Contact support - If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact orders@hydrocheck.com.
The relay activates briefly then drops out

This typically indicates fluctuating water quality near the setpoint threshold.

  • Increase the time delay - Adjust the potentiometer inside the RMR to a longer delay.
  • Check for air in the line - Air pockets near the Hy-Lite sensor can cause intermittent readings.
My connected equipment is not responding

If the RMR relay is clicking but the connected equipment does not respond:

  • Verify wiring to COM/NO/NC terminals - Ensure your equipment is wired to the correct relay contacts.
  • Check voltage and current ratings - Confirm your equipment is within the RMR's rated limits.
  • Test the relay with a multimeter - Measure continuity across the COM/NO terminals when the relay is activated.

Installation

Mount the RMR Mount the RMR enclosure in a dry, accessible location. The RMR can be installed up to 700 feet from the Hy-Lite using RPC cable connections.
Connect the RPC Cable to the Hy-Lite Plug the RPC cable into the output port on the Hy-Lite and into the input port on the RMR. The RMR receives its signal and operating power through the RPC connection to the Hy-Lite system.
Wire Your Equipment to the Relay Open the RMR enclosure and connect your external equipment to the COM, NO, and/or NC relay terminals. The relay is a dry contact, so you supply your own voltage and current.
Set the Operating Mode Configure the E2 jumper: IN for Normal Mode, OUT for Fail-Safe Mode.
Set the Time Delay Adjust the internal potentiometer to set the desired 0-100 second time delay.
⚠ Important: Do not connect a Hy-Lite directly to a PLC or BMS input. Always use the RMR as an interface.

How It Works

  • The RMR receives its signal and operating power through the RPC connection to the Hy-Lite system.
  • When the Hy-Lite detects water quality below its fixed setpoint, the RMR relay changes state after the configured time delay.
  • The relay provides dry-contact COM, NO, and NC terminals for controlling external equipment such as solenoid valves, pumps, indicator lamps, or BMS inputs.
  • In Normal Mode, the relay is de-energized above setpoint and energized below setpoint after the configured delay.
  • In Fail-Safe Mode, the relay is energized above setpoint and de-energizes below setpoint or on loss of power.
  • The Pass-Thru feature allows daisy-chaining an RMA downstream of the RMR for both relay control and remote audible/visual alerting.

What is the RMR Relay Module?

The RMR is an accessory for the Hy-Lite series that provides a dry-contact SPDT relay output for controlling external equipment when water quality drops below the Hy-Lite setpoint.

What accessories do I need for a complete RMR setup?

Minimum required:

  • Hy-Lite indicator
  • HyTran-A power supply
  • RPC cable
  • RMR Relay Module

The RMR receives its signal and operating power through the RPC connection to the Hy-Lite system, so no separate power supply is needed.

Is the RMR relay a dry contact?

Yes. The RMR provides COM, NO, and NC dry contacts. You supply the voltage and current for the circuit the RMR is switching.

What are the relay specifications?

Can the RMR operate a solenoid valve?

Yes. This is one of the most common applications. Ensure the valve's requirements are within the RMR's rated limits.

The E2 jumper selects the operating mode. Normal Mode energizes the relay on alarm; Fail-Safe Mode de-energizes the relay on alarm or loss of power.

What is the Pass-Thru feature?

The Pass-Thru feature allows daisy-chaining an RMA downstream of the RMR so you can have both relay control and a remote audible/visual alarm from one Hy-Lite output.

Can I connect the RMR to a PLC or BMS?

Yes. The RMR dry contact can be wired to a PLC or BMS digital input. Do not connect a Hy-Lite directly to a PLC or BMS input.

Does the RMR work with the 414 series monitors?

No. The RMR is designed for the Hy-Lite series only. The 414 series already includes a built-in relay.

What is the warranty on the RMR?
