Troubleshooting
My 414C is showing "OL" - what does that mean?
"OL" on the 414C means the reading is Out of Range. Follow these troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm the reading is not exceeding 9,999 uS/cm - This is the upper limit of the 414C's measurement range. If your water conductivity exceeds this value, OL is expected behavior.
- Disconnect the sensor from terminals 7-11. If the reading changes when the sensor is disconnected, the issue is likely with the sensor or installation. If OL persists without the sensor, the issue may be with the monitor.
- Verify you're using the correct sensor - The 414C uses the CTS1 (plastic body), not the CS10S (stainless steel). Using the wrong sensor will cause errors.
- Test the CTS1 sensor with a multimeter - Check sensor continuity and resistance per expected values. Refer to factory specs or contact support if unsure.
- Check for air pockets - Bleed the line. Install sensors horizontally when possible.
Manuals & Instructions

Installation
For detailed wiring diagrams and terminal assignments, see the User Manual (PDF).
How It Works
- The CTS1 sensor is installed inline in your water process and measures the electrical conductivity of the water.
- The 414C continuously displays the conductivity value in microsiemens per centimeter (uS/cm) on the front panel.
- An integrated thermistor provides automatic temperature compensation to 25°C.
- The relay changes state based on the user-defined setpoint: above setpoint = relay energized; below setpoint = relay de-energized. A configurable 0-999 second time delay prevents false triggers during startup or rinse-up.
- The relay can drive a 414-RMA Remote Alarm Module, solenoid valve, BMS input, or other external equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the measurement range of the 414C?
The 414C measures conductivity from 0 to 9,999 microsiemens (uS/cm) with ±3% accuracy. The instrument automatically selects from four measurement ranges for optimal resolution:
- 0 - 9.99 uS/cm
- 0 - 99.9 uS/cm
- 0 - 999 uS/cm
- 0 - 9,999 uS/cm
Which sensor does the 414C use?
The 414C uses the CTS1 sensor - it has a plastic probe body. Available in standard cable lengths (10', 25', 50', 100'). Custom lengths may be available upon request. It comes with 3/4" and 1/2" NPT fittings for inline installation.
What's the difference between the 414C and 414TDS?
Both the 414C and 414TDS use the same CTS1 sensor. The difference is in how the reading is displayed:
- 414C displays in microsiemens (uS/cm) - conductivity
- 414TDS displays in parts per million (ppm) - total dissolved solids
Choose whichever measurement unit is standard for your application or industry.
What accessories do I need for a complete 414C setup?
Minimum required:
- 414C Conductivity Monitor
- CTS1 Sensor (choose cable length: 10' to 200')
- PC-110 Power Cable
Optional:
- WMA Wall Mount Adapter
- CM-1K Calibration Module
- 414-RMA Remote Alarm (includes RPC cable)
How do I calibrate the 414C?
The 414C is factory calibrated and typically does not require calibration. If verification or compliance calibration is needed, use the CM-1K Calibration Module.
Connect the CM-1K in place of the sensor and refer to the CM-1K instructions included with the module.
Can I connect a remote alarm to the 414C?
Yes. The 414C has a built-in SPDT relay on terminal block TB1 (terminals 4-6) that can drive a 414-RMA Remote Alarm Module. The RMA provides visual (green/red LED) and audible alerts at a remote location.
You'll need the 414-RMA module and an RPC cable (available in various lengths).
